The City of Mercedes contracted CH2M HILL OMI to operate and maintain its water and wastewater treatment plants in January 1990.
The City’s drinking water originates from a canal fed by the Rio Grande River and is supplemented with a City well when needed. The potable water treatment plant can treat 5.5 million gallons per day (mgd). Finished water is stored in three clearwells and two water towers. The 2.3-mgd wastewater treatment plant uses activated sludge and secondary treatment technologies.
