Official Press Release: Water Quality
PRESS RELEASE TO THE STORY
FROM CHANNEL 5 AIRED LAST WEEK
July 31, 2018
The City of Mercedes feels compelled to address the story from Channel 5 aired last week where the quality of our water was implied to be less than drinkable following the severe flooding event of June 20th.
The City of Mercedes expresses the following facts in regard to this story’s topic:
*the quality of our water has always been within satisfactory or superior parameters of TCEQ’s intense criteria;
*any infiltration to the raw water supply was carefully compensated by adding appropriate chemicals by Jacobs, Mercedes’ private contractor who monitors and manages Mercedes’ water treatment plant;
*the City of Mercedes has no record of receiving a complaint or even a concern regarding the taste or smell of our water, both before and after the flooding event; in fact, since Channel 5’s story, we have not received any concern since then either;
*when viewed again, the female citizen interviewed by Channel 5 expressed a general concern of drinking Mercedes water because of the perception that it may have been compromised by flood waters.
Because of the lingering implication of last week’s story, Mercedes wants to allay any and all concerns, by declaring that our water quality before, during, and after the flood event meets all of TCEQ’s qualifying standards, and our water is absolutely safe to drink.
