City Commission

The City Commission is composed of a Mayor and four Commissioners elected at large for staggered three-year terms. The City of Mercedes has a Commission-Manager form of government. Under this form of government, the elected City Commission sets the policies for the operation of the city’s government. The administrative responsibility rests with the City Manager who is appointed by the City Commission. The Commission enacts policies, adopts ordinances and resolutions, establishes the annual budget to provide services to the public, sets the city tax rate, and water and wastewater rates for Mercedes. All Commission meetings are open to the public. Citizens are encouraged to attend and participate in City Government!
