Creative Bits Writing Challenge (Submissions Closed) October 15, 2025 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM

"Inspired by the Legacy of Dr. Rolando Hinojosa-Smith, our mission is to educate, inspire, and empower individuals of all ages in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond to discover, preserve, and share their stories while fostering literacy, creativity, and environmental stewardship."

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Library is partnering with Creative Bits and The Mercedes Enterprise to bring you a new Writing Challenge!

September 15th through October 15th
Age Range: 12 - 18 Years Old
Word Count: 300 - 500
Theme: "Stories from the Borderlands: Against All Odds"
Submission Type: Fiction or Non-Fiction

Creative BITS is where students become storytellers, leaders, & changemakers. Whether you're into writing, designing, or community projects, there's a place for you here.

At this session, you'll learn how to:

Get published in Creative BITS Vol. 2 & the Mercedes Enterprise
Volunteer at fun eco + community events (& earn service hours!)
Be part of projects that mix creativity, storytelling, & real-world impact

Dr. Samuel Garcia will be here at the library on Thursday, October 16th, at 4:30pm to answer all your questions.
