Fire Department
The Mercedes Fire Department was established in May of 1909. The department is a combination department and has a response district of approximately 74.8 square miles. This means that it is staffed with paid and volunteer firefighters. The Fire Department currently on January 20,2018 went from Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm to a 24 hour shifts. We now have 3 shifts, A shift, B shift and C shift with a minimal 4 personnel on shift. We are now covering the city and county fire district on a 24 hour , 365 days a year.

We have at total of:
- (1) full time Fire Chief
- (1) full time Fire Marshal
- (3) Shift Lieutenants
- (11) paid Firefighters, (12) Volunteer Firefighters.
We still have volunteers to help out and volunteers are always needed. If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, you will need to come to the fire station and get an application (requirements will be listed on the application).
Fire Marshal Services
The City Commission adopted the Fire Marshal Services Fee Schedule on November 17, 2020 (Ord. No. 2020-17). These services will take effect on January 1, 2021.
