REMINDER OF CURFEW REGULATIONSView Document
Since 1983, the City of Mercedes has had a CURFEW for minors. Due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), and school districts taking the precautionary measure of extending their Spring Break to minimize the threat of community spread of this very contagious disease, there may be an inclination for students under the age of 17 to be out & about during late evening hours.
The prevailing CURFEW regulations (Ordinance 93-09) include the following:
- Minors under 17 years of age (meaning 16 & under) are not to be on city streets, parks or other public areas between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- If an officer discovers a minor in such public places, then the Police Officer will issue a warning citation to the parents or adults responsible for the minor.
- If continued violation occurs in the same parental unit responsible for the minor(s), then the Police Officer will issue a regular citation.
Since the elements seem to be present for the CURFEW ordinance to be stressed, the City of Mercedes is providing this friendly reminder of the city’s regulations that is intended to maximize safety to persons and property. Thank you for your understanding and needful compliance.
